New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to be elected unopposed as the president of the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) on Tuesday, with no other candidate filing nomination for the party’s top post.
According to party national general secretary Mohammad Nisar, the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended at 11 am on March 24, confirming Kumar as the sole उम्मीदवार in the fray. Returning officer Aneel Prasad Hegde is scheduled to issue the certificate of election at 2:30 pm.
Senior party leaders, including working president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and Bihar minister Shrawan Kumar, are expected to be present during the announcement.
Kumar had filed his nomination last week through party representatives at the central office in Delhi, with Jha among his proposers. The last date for filing nominations was March 22, followed by scrutiny on March 23.
Nitish Kumar had earlier taken over the reins of the party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after Rajiv Ranjan Singh stepped down as party president in December 2023.
