Nashik: A tragic accident in Nashik has claimed the lives of nine members of a family, including six children, after their vehicle plunged into a well late Friday night, police officials confirmed.
The victims were returning from a family function when the incident occurred near a banquet venue. Authorities said the car veered off the road and fell into a nearby well under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Emergency teams, along with local police, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The vehicle and the occupants were eventually pulled out using cranes and the assistance of swimmers, but all nine were found dead.
The deceased belonged to the Dargude family from Indore village in Dindori taluka. Among those who lost their lives were Sunil Dattu Dargude, his wife Reshma, another family member Asha Anil Dargude, and six children—five girls aged between seven and 14, and an 11-year-old boy.
Bodies were shifted to a government hospital in Dindori for post-mortem examination.
Police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary indications suggest it may have been a case of loss of control, but officials said all angles, including road conditions and visibility, are being examined.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the local community, with residents expressing shock at the scale of the tragedy involving an entire family.
