Kangpokpi: At least nine houses were burnt down following a violent attack by armed miscreants on a Naga village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district late Tuesday night, according to officials. The incident occurred at around 9:30 PM at Tokpa Liangmai Naga village, where assailants opened fire before setting multiple residential structures on fire. Most of the affected properties were traditional kutcha structures. Residents from neighboring villages quickly rushed to the scene to assist locals in containing the spreading flames and preventing further destruction.
In response to the escalation, additional security forces were deployed to the district on Wednesday morning to stabilize the situation and maintain law and order. Local administrative officials confirmed that security operations have been intensified across surrounding areas to prevent potential retaliatory violence.
The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur, issued a formal statement strongly condemning the attack and alleging that armed individuals belonging to another community were responsible for the arson. The community council claimed that ten houses alongside a local church were completely destroyed during the assault. Describing the incident as a grave and reprehensible act of violence, the council emphasized that the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians, private residential properties, and places of worship undermines regional stability.
The Naga organization urged state authorities and law enforcement agencies to immediately identify, arrest, and prosecute all perpetrators involved in the violence. Furthermore, community leaders demanded a sustained strengthening of security measures and increased patrolling in vulnerable villages to ensure the long-term safety and protection of residents.
