Hubballi, Karnataka: In an unusual turn of events, a newly married couple had to join their own wedding reception online after their IndiGo flight was abruptly cancelled.

The couple, Medha Kshirsagar from Hubballi and Sangram Das from Bhubaneswar, both software engineers based in Bengaluru, were scheduled to attend their wedding reception at Gujarat Bhavan, Hubballi on Wednesday. The celebration followed their marriage in Bhubaneswar on November 23.

Travel plans were disrupted when their IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Hubballi was cancelled, leaving the couple stranded and unable to attend the reception in person. With no alternative flights available on short notice, they decided to participate virtually, joining friends and family via video call.

Despite the unexpected setback, the couple expressed gratitude for the support from their guests. “It wasn’t the way we imagined it, but seeing everyone’s faces online and celebrating together gave us a lot of happiness,” said Medha.

The incident highlights the continuing disruptions in air travel caused by IndiGo’s operational issues, which have affected thousands of passengers across the country in recent days.

Guests at the reception made sure the couple could join seamlessly, setting up screens and coordinating video calls so the celebration could go on without delay.

While the situation was far from ideal, family and friends made the best of it, sharing laughter, blessings, and virtual toasts with the newlyweds — proving that love and celebration can adapt even in the face of travel chaos.
