NDA MPs Called for Key Meeting on August 5, Political Buzz Over ‘Big Move’ Intensifies

New Delhi — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called a meeting of all National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Members of Parliament on Tuesday, August 5, fueling strong speculation about a significant announcement by the Narendra Modi government.

In a notice released on Monday, the BJP stated, “A meeting of the NDA Parliamentary party will be held at 9.30 am on Tuesday, August 5, in GMC Balayogi Auditorium of Parliamentary Library Building. All NDA members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are requested to attend.”

This will be the first full NDA parliamentary party meeting since July 2, 2024, which was held after Narendra Modi was sworn in for a third term as Prime Minister. The renewed timing of the meeting, especially on August 5, has led many in political and media circles to suggest the possibility of a major development.

The date August 5 carries significant weight for the BJP-led government. It was on August 5, 2019, that the Centre revoked Article 370, stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and bifurcating the state into two union territories — Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. A year later, on August 5, 2020, Prime Minister Modi led the ground-breaking ceremony for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Both moves were seen as landmark fulfilments of long-standing ideological commitments by the BJP.

The current build-up to Tuesday’s meeting has been punctuated by a series of high-profile interactions at the top levels of government. On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This was followed by a telephone call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the President.

On Monday, more closed-door meetings were observed. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with the Prime Minister. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also met key ministers, including BJP president JP Nadda, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. Meanwhile, Home Secretary Govind Mohan and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Amit Shah in Parliament House.

The back-to-back meetings and the symbolic weight of the date have intensified political chatter. While no official agenda has been announced, expectations are high that something politically significant may be unveiled during the August 5 NDA meeting.
