Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 75th birthday on Wednesday, an occasion that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked by rolling out a 16-day-long nationwide programme of public welfare activities titled Sewa Pakhwada.
The campaign, which runs until October 2, will see BJP governments at the Centre and in states organise health camps, sanitation drives, promotion fairs for local products, and interactions with social groups and intellectuals. The initiative is being projected as a blend of service and celebration, highlighting the government’s developmental priorities.
Modi, who was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, travelled to Dhar in Madhya Pradesh to inaugurate a health and nutrition awareness drive with a special focus on women and children. He is also scheduled to launch schemes aimed at improving conditions in tribal communities, alongside addressing a public gathering.
Birthday greetings poured in from across the political spectrum. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the Prime Minister as a leader who has given “new strength and direction” to India with his tireless efforts, while BJP chief JP Nadda said Modi’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat has transformed aspirations into achievable goals.
President Droupadi Murmu, in her message, praised the Prime Minister’s leadership, saying he has nurtured a spirit of achieving ambitious national objectives and strengthened India’s standing in the global arena.
Since taking office in 2014, Modi has led the BJP to successive electoral victories, expanding its footprint across the country. The party has framed the latest birthday observances as both a tribute to his leadership and an opportunity to extend its outreach among communities through grassroots service.
