Jaipur: Four police personnel were injured after a mob allegedly pelted stones while authorities were removing iron railings erected on a public road outside a mosque in Rajasthan’s Jaipur district early Friday, officials said.

The incident took place around 3 am near the bus stand area of Chomu town, located about 40 kilometres from Jaipur. Tensions escalated when police moved in to remove iron railings that had allegedly encroached upon the road outside the mosque.

According to police officials, discussions had been held on Thursday evening between the local administration and members of the community regarding the removal of stones placed on the road near the mosque. The community had reportedly agreed to clear the obstruction on its own. However, after the stones were removed, some individuals allegedly began installing iron railings at the same spot, leading to fresh objections.

When police attempted to remove the railings using a JCB machine in the early hours of Friday, some miscreants allegedly started pelting stones at the police team. Four policemen sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Agarwal said the situation was brought under control and assured strict action against those responsible for the violence. Deputy Superintendent of Police Usha Yadav stated that additional police personnel were deployed and senior officers rushed to the spot to prevent further escalation.

As a precautionary measure, internet services were suspended in Chomu for 24 hours. Police have been conducting flag marches across the town to maintain law and order, while teams have been formed to identify and arrest those involved in the stone-pelting incident.

Authorities said the situation remains under control and further investigation is underway.
