BENGALURU — A 32-year-old man has been apprehended by local authorities after he allegedly set his partner and her parents on fire following a disagreement over a two-wheeler. The horrific incident took place in the Tarabanahalli area, leading to the arrest of the suspect on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

The accused has been identified as Panduranga, a resident of Nandini Layout. According to senior police officials, the primary victim, 27-year-old Sumalatha, works as a domestic help. She and her parents are currently undergoing intensive treatment at a local hospital for the injuries sustained during the attack.

The confrontation began when Panduranga visited Sumalatha’s residence and demanded that she hand over her scooter to him. When she refused to comply, a heated argument ensued. As the situation escalated, Sumalatha’s parents attempted to intervene to protect their daughter. In an apparent fit of rage, Panduranga allegedly poured petrol from a bottle over all three family members and set them on fire before immediately fleeing the scene.

Neighbours who witnessed the commotion acted quickly to assist the victims and rushed the family to the hospital for emergency care. Following a preliminary investigation, a case was registered at the Soladevanahalli police station. The accused faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), specifically Section 109 for attempt to murder and Section 351 (2) for criminal intimidation.

While Panduranga remains in custody, the police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the attack. The condition of the three victims remains a primary concern for the medical staff as they monitor their recovery from the severe burn injuries.
