Kozhikode (Kerala): A 42-year-old man, who was recently accused of misbehaving with a woman passenger on a bus through a viral social media video, was found hanging at his residence on Sunday morning, police officials confirmed.

The deceased has been identified as Deepak U, a native of Puthiyara, who was living with his family at Govindhapuram. According to the police, the incident came to light around 7 a.m. when Deepak’s parents attempted to wake him but received no response.

After repeated attempts, family members, with the help of neighbours, entered the bedroom and discovered Deepak hanging from a ceiling fan. Police were immediately alerted and reached the spot, where they confirmed his death.

Relatives stated that Deepak was employed at a textile firm and had travelled to Kannur on Friday for work-related purposes. On the same day, a woman passenger who was travelling on the bus allegedly recorded a video accusing him of inappropriate behaviour. The video subsequently went viral on social media platforms.

Police said the circulation of the video had come to Deepak’s notice. Family members claimed that he strongly denied the allegations and had been under severe emotional stress since the video began circulating online.

The Medical College Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation. Officials stated that preliminary findings suggest a case of suicide, though all aspects—including the circumstances surrounding the viral video—are being thoroughly examined.

Further investigation is underway.
