Lucknow — A 26-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death on suspicion of being in an interfaith relationship in the Saadatganj area of Lucknow late on Monday night.
Police said the victim, identified as Ali Abbas, was called to the house of the accused — Himalaya Prajapati, Sonu, and Saurabh Prajapati — where he was brutally assaulted with sticks over his alleged relationship with their sister. Abbas sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a hospital by police officers, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava confirmed that two of the accused, Himalaya and Saurabh, have been taken into custody while the third, Sonu, remains absconding. During interrogation, the duo confessed to attacking Abbas, admitting they were enraged over his alleged relationship with their sister.
The victim’s father, Arif Zamir, lodged a formal complaint, leading to the arrests. Authorities said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.
The case has sparked tension in the locality, with police maintaining a close watch to prevent any flare-up.
