Rimbi: A massive landslide triggered by relentless torrential rainfall caused extensive structural damage to several homes and government accommodations in Sikkim’s Gyalshing district late Thursday night, officials confirmed on Friday.
The disaster struck Rimbi village, located in the Yuksom-Tashiding constituency, sending large volumes of mud, rocks, and debris sweeping through residential sections. Although multiple structures sustained severe damage or were completely wrecked, local authorities reported that no loss of life or serious injuries occurred during the midnight incident.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed deep concern regarding the calamity, affirming that the safety and well-being of the affected villagers remain the state administration’s top priority. Tamang stated that local authorities and disaster response teams have been placed on high alert to closely track the situation and implement swift protective measures.
Urging the public to remain vigilant as torrential rains persist across the Himalayan region, the Chief Minister appealed to residents to follow official safety advisories and support one another, adding that the state government is mobilizing all necessary resources to assist Rimbi and mitigate further hazards.
