Landslide in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi District, Family of Seven Feared Dead

Reasi – A massive landslide struck the Mahore area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Saturday morning, leaving seven members of the same family feared dead.

Officials said the landslide, triggered by incessant rainfall, swept away the house of Nazir Ahmad. Ahmad, his wife, and their five children were inside when the structure collapsed under heavy mud and debris. None of them have been traced so far.

Rescue operations are underway with local residents assisting teams on the ground. However, persistent rainfall and unstable slopes are hampering the search. “Efforts are on to locate the missing persons. The situation is extremely challenging, but teams are working round the clock,” an official said.

The Reasi district has been among the worst hit by recent extreme weather. Continuous downpours have triggered multiple landslides and blocked roads, cutting off access to several villages. Authorities have urged residents of vulnerable hilly areas and unstable slopes to shift to safer locations.

The tragedy underscores the fragile terrain of Jammu and Kashmir’s mountain belt, particularly during the monsoon season. Relief agencies will continue operations, though officials warned that survival chances diminish with each passing hour.
