Thrissur, Kerala: A shocking incident unfolded in Erumapetty on Friday when a car owner was forced to cling to the bonnet of his own vehicle for several kilometres after the man driving it allegedly attempted to run him over, police said.
The vehicle was being used by Backer, a resident of Thrissur, who had rented two cars from Solaman of Aluva in September. Despite repeated reminders, Backer failed to return the vehicles, prompting Solaman to lodge a police complaint. He later assured Solaman that he would hand over a piece of land instead, but the promise was never fulfilled.
On Friday morning, Solaman spotted Backer in Erumapetty and confronted him. During the heated exchange, Backer tried to flee in one of the cars. Solaman stood in front of the vehicle to stop him, but Backer accelerated, forcing the owner to cling to the bonnet to save himself.
According to witnesses, the car continued moving for over 5 km despite Solaman’s desperate pleas to stop. Locals eventually intervened, blocking the vehicle and notifying the police.
Erumapetty police have registered a case for dangerous driving and arrested Backer. Further investigation is underway.
