Kedarnath: The Kedarnath Temple Committee announced a total ban on the use of mobile phones within the temple premises on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The new regulations strictly prohibit devotees from carrying mobile devices, taking photographs, recording videos, or creating social media reels inside the shrine. Temple Committee Member Vineet Posti confirmed the decision, stating that the move is essential to preserve the sanctity of the holiest of sites and to ensure a peaceful environment for worship. Authorities have warned that any individual found violating these rules will face immediate legal action and the confiscation of their devices.
This decision comes in response to increasing concerns regarding viral social media content filmed inside the sacred space, which many religious leaders argued undermined the dignity of the pilgrimage. The administration believes that by restricting mobile usage, devotees will be encouraged to focus on their spiritual experience rather than digital documentation. Officials stationed at the temple will actively monitor compliance, and the committee has appealed to all pilgrims to maintain religious decorum to ensure a smooth darshan experience for everyone during the current season.
In addition to the mobile ban, local police have implemented an extensive traffic management plan to handle the anticipated surge of pilgrims for the Kedarnath Yatra. Significant focus has been placed on regulating vehicle flow from national highways to connecting link roads. To prevent congestion, the administration has established both permanent and temporary parking facilities along the route. Adequate police personnel are being deployed at strategic points to manage vehicular pressure and maintain a disciplined flow of traffic, ensuring the safety of thousands of devotees traveling to the Himalayan shrine.
