Dhanbad — A shocking crime has come to light in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, where a tribal woman allegedly murdered her husband and buried his body inside their house for over 10 days.
The incident took place at Tilaiyatan village under the Tundi police station limits. Police said the accused, identified as Surji Majhiyain (42), confessed to killing her husband, Suresh Hansda (45), after repeated quarrels over his drinking habits and alleged affairs. She reportedly struck him with a stick and a sickle before digging a pit inside their mud house to conceal the body.
The crime was uncovered when relatives grew suspicious after Suresh failed to attend his uncle’s funeral nearly 10 days ago. Neighbours also reported a foul smell coming from the house, prompting them to alert the police on Friday evening. On interrogation, Surji admitted to the killing, and she has since been arrested.
Tundi police station in-charge Uma Shankar confirmed that the woman said she was “fed up” with her husband’s alcoholism and extramarital relationships. Police have sought a magistrate’s presence to exhume the body, which will be sent to Shahid Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad for post-mortem.
“The exact time of death will only be established after the autopsy,” said Uma Shankar, adding that efforts are underway to recover the murder weapons.
The case has sparked widespread shock in the village, with residents claiming the husband had been missing for longer than the wife initially stated. Police continue their investigation.
