New Delhi: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will undertake a three-day official visit to India from July 1 to 3 to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, where she will hold wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, defence and regional security.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Takaichi’s visit is being made at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi and will provide both countries an opportunity to review the full spectrum of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

“The Summit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review and strengthen the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest,” the MEA said in a statement.

This will be Takaichi’s first official visit to India since assuming office as Japan’s Prime Minister.

The visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Tokyo in August 2025 for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, where both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening strategic and economic ties.

During last year’s summit, Japan announced an ambitious investment target of 10 trillion yen in India over the next decade. The two countries also signed several major agreements, including a framework to enhance defence cooperation and a 10-year roadmap aimed at expanding economic partnership.

Earlier this week, plans to host the summit in Assam were dropped due to Takaichi’s packed schedule and logistical constraints. The high-level meeting will now be held in New Delhi.
