Kolkata: IndiGo has expanded its international network by launching a daily non-stop flight connecting Kolkata and Shanghai, starting March 29. The move aims to enhance travel and trade links between India and China amid growing demand for both business and leisure travel.
The new route will operate on the Airbus A320neo, offering passengers a fuel-efficient and comfortable travel option. Kolkata will serve as a key hub, providing seamless one-stop connections to Shanghai from cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar.
IndiGo’s growing presence in China also includes restored Kolkata-Guangzhou services and new flights from Delhi, bringing the airline’s total weekly flights to mainland China to 21.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, highlighted that the route strengthens bilateral connectivity and opens avenues for cultural and commercial exchange. “Shanghai, as a major financial center, is a strategic gateway for trade and international travel,” he said.
The daily service will depart Kolkata at 9:45 pm, reaching Shanghai at 4:40 am the next day, with return flights leaving Shanghai at 5:40 am, local time.
