New Delhi: Indian Railways is preparing to launch the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, designed to provide faster and more comfortable overnight travel. The service is expected to begin operations just ahead of Diwali 2025, connecting Patna and Delhi via Prayagraj in 11.5 hours.

According to reports, the train is likely to leave Patna at 8 pm and reach New Delhi by 7:30 am the next morning. This will significantly cut the usual journey time of 12 to 17 hours, offering passengers a faster and smoother option on one of India’s busiest routes.

The ticket prices are expected to be around 10–15% higher than the Rajdhani Express, industry sources said. Unlike the existing chair-car Vande Bharat models, this new variant will include sleeping berths, making it especially suitable for long-distance overnight journeys.

Built with advanced Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the train will run at a maximum speed of 180 km/h. The interiors are designed with an aircraft-style finish, adding a premium touch to the travel experience.

The train is equipped with CCTV cameras, LED infotainment screens, automatic doors with sensors, modern fire safety systems, and on-board announcement facilities, ensuring both comfort and safety.

Officials said the sleeper version is aimed at expanding the Vande Bharat network to long-haul routes where overnight travel demand is high. The Delhi–Patna corridor witnesses massive passenger movement, especially during festivals, and the new train is expected to ease congestion while improving regional connectivity.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is set to boost rail infrastructure, passenger convenience, and interstate connectivity in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, while marking a new milestone in India’s high-speed rail journey.
