New Delhi: Wednesday marked a day of historic milestones for India at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, as Indian athletes secured significant victories in track and field, while the boxing contingent guaranteed a record-breaking medal tally. India’s total medal count has now reached 15 (3 Gold, 9 Silver, 3 Bronze), placing the nation eighth in the overall standings.
Historic Athletics Achievements
India made history in para-athletics as Dilip Mahadu Gavit clinched the gold medal in the men’s 100m T47 event, clocking a new Games Record of 10.71 seconds. His compatriot, Mohammed Basil Morasinganakth, added to the celebration by securing the silver medal with a time of 10.83 seconds. These victories mark India’s third gold of the ongoing Games, following earlier top-podium finishes by Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting) and Sharmila Dhaka (Women’s Shot Put F57).
In the men’s long jump, Murali Sreeshankar made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win consecutive medals in the event at the Commonwealth Games. Sreeshankar leaped 8.09 meters to secure silver, repeating his performance from the 2022 Birmingham Games. Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle took gold with an 8.15m jump, while Scotland’s Stephen Mackenzie (8.08m) claimed bronze. Another Indian contender, Lokesh Sathyanathan, finished a commendable fifth with a best effort of 7.97 meters.
Boxing Contingent Guarantees 10 Medals
The Indian boxing squad delivered a spectacular performance, with ten athletes advancing to the semi-finals, thereby guaranteeing at least 10 medals for the country. This achievement surpasses India’s previous record of seven boxing medals set at Birmingham 2022.

Jaismine Lamboria sealed the historic tenth spot by defeating England’s Elise Glynn 4-1 in a dominant display during the final bout of the day.
Punjab Sanitation Workers’ Strike
In domestic news, sanitation workers have called for a statewide “Punjab Bandh” today. The strike is expected to cause complete shutdowns in nine districts across the state.
