Shri Hemkunt Sahib: The annual pilgrimage to the high-altitude Himalayan shrine of Shri Hemkunt Sahib in Uttarakhand will formally conclude on October 10, 2026, announced Narendra Jeet Singh Bindra, President of the Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust, on Monday. The yatra, which commenced on May 23, 2026, with the traditional opening of the shrine’s portals, has drawn more than 2.38 lakh devotees from across India and around the world to pay their respects at the sacred site.
Situated at an altitude exceeding 15,000 feet above sea level, Shri Hemkunt Sahib is nestled among seven snow-clad peaks and a pristine glacial lake. The site holds profound spiritual significance in Sikh tradition, as recorded in the ‘Bachittar Natak’ within the Dasam Granth, marking the location where the tenth Sikh master, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, engaged in deep meditation and penance during his previous birth.
The Trust noted that the final weeks of the pilgrimage coincide with the peak blooming season across the Hemkunt Valley. Visitors during this period can observe high-altitude flora shared with the adjacent Valley of Flowers, including the rare Brahma Kamal blooming along the mountain slopes. Bindra expressed gratitude to the Uttarakhand government, security forces, Indian Army personnel, and volunteers for maintaining smooth operations and urged remaining pilgrims to follow administrative guidance given the challenging high-altitude weather and terrain.
