Rishikesh: Persistent rainfall across the Garhwal region and Dehradun district has pushed the water level of the Ganga in Rishikesh above the danger mark, prompting authorities to step up precautions along the riverfront.

The river is currently flowing around 15 centimetres above the prescribed danger level, according to local authorities. With the water level continuing to remain a concern, the administration has placed the area on high alert and intensified monitoring at the city’s major ghats.

Public announcements are being made through loudspeakers at prominent ghats, urging visitors and local residents to exercise caution and stay away from the river. The warnings are aimed at preventing accidents amid the swollen river and strong currents.

Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jal Police and Rishikesh Police have also been deployed and placed on alert at the Ganga ghats. Personnel are keeping a close watch on the situation and are prepared to respond if the water level rises further or an emergency occurs.

Authorities have urged people to follow safety instructions and avoid approaching the river unnecessarily until conditions improve. With rainfall continuing in parts of the region, officials are closely monitoring the Ganga’s water level and the situation along the riverbanks.
