Magorra (Rajasthan): Four people lost their lives after a speeding car crashed into a water tank and plunged into a canal in Nagla Dewiya village under Magorra police station limits on Wednesday night.

According to information received, the accident occurred around 8:30 pm when the car reportedly lost control at a sharp turn near the village. The vehicle first rammed into a cement water tank installed near the bend and then veered off the road, falling into the Govardhan canal.

The canal was filled with water and had a strong current at the time of the incident. The car sank completely, leading to the drowning of all four occupants. Hearing screams, local residents rushed to the spot. Some villagers jumped into the canal in an attempt to rescue the passengers, while others alerted the police.

After nearly 45 minutes of strenuous efforts, villagers managed to pull the victims out of the water. However, all four had died by then. A tractor and rope were later used to retrieve the submerged car from the canal.

Based on the vehicle’s registration number, three of the deceased were identified as Rahul, Amit and Mohit, residents of Prem Nagar under Mahavan police station limits. The identity of the fourth victim is yet to be confirmed.

Rural SP Suresh Chandra Rawat said the victims were on their way to Deeg to attend a function when the accident took place. He added that the car fell nearly 10 feet into the canal, where the water flow was strong.

Govardhan police station SI Harinder Malik stated that preliminary investigation suggests that the three identified victims belonged to the same family and were brothers. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
