Bengaluru: A 40-year-old former software engineer allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife, a bank manager, near Magadi Road on Tuesday evening, hours after receiving a divorce notice. The accused surrendered at a local police station immediately after the incident.
Police identified the victim as Bhuvaneshwari, 39, an Assistant Manager at the Union Bank of India’s Basaveshwarnagar branch. Her husband, Balamurugan, has been arrested and a murder case registered at the Magadi Road Police Station under Crime No. 310/2025.
According to investigators, the couple, married in 2011, had been living separately for the past 18 months following persistent marital disputes. Bhuvaneshwari had shifted to Rajajinagar six months ago to live away from her husband. Police said Balamurugan, who earlier worked as a software engineer in Whitefield, suspected his wife of having an extramarital relationship and opposed her decision to seek a legal separation.
Investigations revealed that the accused had been tracking his wife’s whereabouts for several months. After locating her residence, he reportedly moved to the Cholurpalya area around four months ago to keep watch on her movements. Tensions escalated further last week when he formally received a divorce notice from her.
On Tuesday evening between 6.30 pm and 7 pm, Balamurugan allegedly intercepted Bhuvaneshwari while she was returning home from work and fired at her using a pistol. She sustained critical gunshot injuries and was rushed to Shanbagh Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Soon after the shooting, the accused walked into the Magadi Road Police Station and confessed to the crime. He is currently in police custody, and officials are probing how he procured the firearm used in the killing. Further investigation is underway.
