New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested former Rajasthan MLA Baljit Yadav in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged embezzlement of government funds, official sources said on Wednesday.

Yadav, an independent legislator who represented the Behror Assembly constituency, was taken into custody on Tuesday under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources said.

According to ED officials, the case pertains to the alleged misappropriation of MLA funds under the pretext of supplying sports equipment to government schools. The agency suspects that public money was siphoned off through fake or inflated procurement bills.

The central probe agency had earlier conducted searches against Yadav in January last year as part of its investigation into the case. Further inquiry is underway to trace the flow of funds and identify other individuals who may be linked to the alleged financial irregularities.
