Madhubani (Bihar) — A tragic road accident on the East-West Corridor (NH-27) claimed the lives of five people and left two others seriously injured in the Madhubani district of Bihar on Thursday, March 5, 2026. The collision occurred during the early morning hours near Khopa Chowk under the jurisdiction of the Phulparas police station when a speeding SUV with Haryana registration rammed into a truck.
According to police reports, the SUV (Scorpio), bearing the license plate HR07AG 3633, was travelling from the Darbhanga side when it reportedly lost control, crossed the highway divider, and entered the opposite lane. It then collided head-on with a truck approaching from the other direction. The impact was so severe that one passenger died on the spot, while four others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing emergency treatment at nearby medical facilities.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Phulparas, Vikram Acharya, confirmed the casualties and stated that the victims were residents of Haryana. Preliminary identification has established three of the deceased as Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Kanikla in Kurshukshetra, and Vikas and Kapil, both residents of Raudikheri in Kurukshetra. The identity of the fifth victim, a woman, is yet to be fully verified. Two other passengers sustained critical injuries and have been referred to more advanced medical centres for specialized care.
The police have seized both vehicles and are in the process of informing the families of the victims. Authorities believe the group may have been travelling toward Northeast India at the time of the crash. An investigation is currently underway to determine whether driver fatigue or a mechanical failure caused the vehicle to veer across the divider.
