Thiruvananthapuram: An Emirates flight en route to Dubai from Thiruvananthapuram was forced to return to its departure airport early Monday after a security-related situation led to the temporary closure of Dubai International Airport.

According to airport officials, the flight, operating on the Thiruvananthapuram–Dubai route, took off at around 4:40 a.m. carrying 353 passengers along with 19 crew members. However, while the aircraft was mid-journey, authorities in Dubai shut down airport operations following the reported security incident.

As a result, the flight was instructed to turn back and safely landed at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at approximately 8:40 a.m. Airport representatives confirmed that all passengers were safe and arrangements were being made to move them into the terminal while further travel plans were coordinated.

A similar disruption affected another Emirates service earlier the same morning. Flight EK533, which had departed from Cochin International Airport at about 4:30 a.m. with 325 people onboard, was also required to return after the closure of Dubai’s airport. The aircraft later landed safely back in Kochi.

Authorities have not yet released detailed information about the security issue in Dubai, but operations were temporarily halted as a precautionary measure. Further updates regarding passenger rescheduling and flight operations are expected from the airline and airport authorities.
