New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday provided a significant update on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, revealing that documentation from 98.2% of eligible voters has already been received — with eight days still remaining before the submission window closes on September 1.

The electoral roll revision process, which began on June 24 and is set to conclude on September 1, has seen widespread participation across Bihar. The ECI lauded the efforts of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar, along with District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs, over 90,000 BLOs, and the field teams of all 12 major political parties, for their active involvement.

Documentation Drive Achieves Milestone

As per official data, documents from 98.2% of voters have already been collected over a period of 60 days, with just 1.8% of electors still left to submit their paperwork. On average, the state has seen daily documentation rates exceeding 1.6%.

The ECI emphasized that the ongoing effort mirrors the earlier Enumeration phase in terms of scale and intensity. Volunteers, BLOs, and party representatives have continued to play a vital role in the document collection drive. The commission expects that work related to the remaining documents will be largely completed well ahead of the September 1 deadline.

Low Claims and Objections Filed So Far

From the total 7.24 crore electors listed in the draft rolls published on August 1, only 0.16% have submitted Claims and Objections, as per data received from the state. This includes:

  • Submissions from BLOs of 12 Recognised Political Parties

  • Entries under Form 10 from non-electors of the same constituency

  • Objections filed by 1.21 lakh electors in their respective constituencies

New Voter Registrations and Youth Turnout

The commission also highlighted that 3,28,847 new electors who turned 18 on or before July 1 have already submitted their Form 6 to register. Additionally, more registrations are anticipated from those turning 18 by October 1, further enriching the updated rolls.

On Schedule for Final Publication by September 30

The ECI confirmed that Bihar’s SIR process is progressing according to schedule. The final disposal of claims and objections, along with the verification of pending eligibility documents, will be completed by September 25. The final electoral rolls are set to be published on September 30, 2025.

The ECI’s latest bulletin underscores both the efficiency of the revision process and the strong voter engagement in Bihar — a crucial state in the national political landscape.
