Samba: Security forces have intercepted a suspected cross-border arms drop near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, raising concerns over attempts to destabilise the region ahead of Republic Day.

Officials said the consignment, believed to have been delivered by a drone from Pakistan, was found in a forward area during a joint operation carried out by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG).

The recovery was made late on Friday night after security agencies received specific inputs about unusual aerial activity and possible drone movement from across the border. Acting on the alert, teams launched a coordinated search in the Paloora area of Ghagwal sector.

During the operation, personnel discovered a suspicious package lying near a stream. The parcel, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, was examined by a bomb disposal unit before being opened. Inside, officers found two pistols, three magazines, 16 live cartridges and a hand grenade.

Authorities said the seizure comes at a time when security has been significantly tightened across border districts to prevent any militant activity aimed at disrupting national celebrations later this month.

Search operations in and around the area were still underway at the time of the last update, as forces continued to comb the surroundings for any additional material or clues related to the drone drop.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the intended recipients of the weapons and to trace the route used for the aerial delivery.
