Delhi: A 25-year-old delivery worker lost his life after a speeding car allegedly struck his electric scooter in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area in the early hours of Saturday, police officials said.
The accident was reported around 3:30 am on the Najafgarh–Rajouri Garden Road. A police team rushed to the scene after receiving information about a collision and found both the damaged scooter and the car at the spot.
The victim was identified as Hem Shankar, a resident of Raghubir Nagar who was employed with a rapid grocery delivery service. He had been taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital before officers arrived. Doctors later declared him dead, according to a senior officer.
Initial findings and statements from eyewitnesses suggest that the car hit the scooter from behind. The impact reportedly threw the rider onto the road, causing critical injuries.
The driver of the car, Mohit Kumar, 27, a resident of Najafgarh and an alleged contractor associated with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, was detained at the scene. His vehicle has been impounded for further examination.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
Police said they are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and will conduct mechanical inspections of both vehicles as part of the probe.
