New Delhi: What was initially reported as a mysterious stabbing by unknown assailants in central Delhi has now been exposed as a planned attack, with police arresting a 24-year-old woman and her alleged accomplice for attempting to kill her husband.
The accused, identified as Laxmi (24) and Karan (22), were taken into custody after investigators uncovered inconsistencies in the woman’s statement and gathered technical evidence pointing to a conspiracy. The victim, a resident of Baljeet Nagar, suffered multiple stab injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
According to police, Laxmi initially claimed that her husband had been attacked by unidentified men when he stepped out to buy food. Based on her complaint, a case was registered at Patel Nagar police station. However, suspicion arose when CCTV footage failed to corroborate her version of events.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohit Rajbir said that discrepancies in the timeline and movement prompted further investigation. Police later found that Laxmi had allegedly conspired with Karan, with whom she had been in contact for several years.
Officials revealed that the woman had married the victim for financial security, but their relationship deteriorated over time. She later reconnected with Karan, and the two allegedly plotted to eliminate her husband.
On the day of the incident, Laxmi reportedly called Karan to their residence in Patel Nagar under the pretext of confronting the victim. During an argument, Karan allegedly stabbed the man multiple times before fleeing the scene. The duo then fabricated a story about an attack by unknown individuals to mislead investigators.
Acting swiftly on technical surveillance and local intelligence, police tracked Karan to the Shadipur flyover area and arrested him within 24 hours of the incident. Laxmi was subsequently taken into custody, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered based on Karan’s disclosure.
Police said further investigation is underway.
