New Delhi: A major security scare unfolded at the Delhi High Court on Friday morning after a bomb threat email prompted judges to abruptly vacate their courtrooms. The threat, received by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj at 10:41 AM, led to immediate precautionary measures, including the deployment of a bomb disposal squad.
As the threat became known, judges across various benches halted proceedings and exited their courtrooms without prior notice. When concerned lawyers inquired about the disruption, court staff confirmed that the judges would not be sitting for the day. In all listed matters, fresh dates were issued in light of the unexpected situation.
The bomb disposal team reached the High Court premises soon after the alert was raised. While thorough security sweeps were carried out, authorities have not reported any suspicious objects found as of now. Entry and exit points to the High Court complex were also temporarily secured as part of the standard protocol.
The sudden disruption caused confusion among litigants and advocates, many of whom had gathered for scheduled hearings. However, officials emphasized that the safety of all individuals within the premises was the top priority.
Security agencies are currently investigating the origin of the threat and assessing its credibility. The Delhi Police has not released an official statement yet, but sources suggest that electronic forensics teams have been engaged to trace the sender of the threatening message.
Court functioning is expected to resume once clearance is given by security authorities. Meanwhile, heightened vigilance will likely remain in place across court complexes in the city.
