CRPF Flags Security Protocol Breaches During Rahul Gandhi’s Movements

New Delhi: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has raised concerns over alleged violations of security protocols by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his recent travels, sources said on Thursday.

Rahul Gandhi, who is under a Z-plus (ASL) security cover as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is guarded by a close protection team of 10–12 armed CRPF commandos. The force also conducts detailed reconnaissance of all locations scheduled to be visited by him under the Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) procedure.

According to officials, the CRPF’s VIP security unit has written to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, pointing out incidents of “unscheduled movements without intimation” by Gandhi, both during his domestic tours and before his departure abroad.

The communication, described as a “routine” reminder, is not the first instance of such correspondence, officials added. However, the force has reiterated that such unannounced changes in travel plans expose Gandhi, categorized as a “high-risk” protectee, to potential threats.

The CRPF has also shared detailed guidelines outlined in the government’s ‘yellow book’ on VIP security, urging Gandhi’s team to strictly adhere to the norms and ensure timely coordination with the security wing.
