Chamoli/Rudraprayag: A cloudburst in the Dewal area of Chamoli district late Thursday night has left two people missing and caused severe damage to livestock, with many animals buried under debris. Torrential rain across the region has blocked key roads, hampering movement and relief operations.
Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that rescue teams have reached the site and are engaged in search operations despite challenging conditions. Authorities are also working to reopen road access to ensure faster relief delivery.
The disaster was compounded by another cloudburst in the Bareth Dungar Tok locality under Buskedar tehsil of Rudraprayag district, leading to families being trapped in the flow of mud and debris.
Expressing concern, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on social media that relief and rescue efforts are being carried out “on a war footing.” He added that he is in continuous touch with senior officials, including the Disaster Management Secretary and the respective District Magistrates, to monitor operations.
“I pray to Baba Kedar for the safety and well-being of everyone affected,” the Chief Minister said, assuring that all necessary instructions have been issued for swift and effective action.
Heavy rains continue to lash several parts of Uttarakhand, heightening fears of landslides and flash floods, as the administration remains on high alert.
