New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das has moved the Delhi High Court, filing a civil suit seeking ₹2 crore in damages against political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra along with multiple media organisations and associated social media platforms for alleged violation of his privacy. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of unlawfully publicising his residential address and broadcasting private details about his rented accommodation in the public domain.
According to the plea, Das has resided in a rented residence in Greater Kailash since early 2025. The petition states that representatives from a media platform unlawfully trespassed onto the property, recorded footage of the interior spaces without authorization, and circulated the video on social media on August 5. The footage reportedly accumulated over 2.1 million views before being recirculated across platforms on August 10.
The suit further alleges that Mitra disclosed Das’s private residential details during a broadcast hosted by a legal news outlet, publicly identifying his neighbour and claiming his monthly rent stood at approximately ₹7 lakh. Das contended that Mitra subsequently amplified these disclosures through multiple online posts, compounding the infringement.
Beyond monetary compensation, the suit seeks a permanent injunction to prevent the defendants from further publishing or disseminating content related to his residence, alongside immediate directions to take down all offending online posts and video footage. Das submitted that the unauthorized disclosure poses severe security concerns, arguing that the public release of his address substantially heightens the risk of hostility, intimidation, and physical harm toward him and his family members.
