Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur : At least six people, including four women, were killed and around 20 others injured after a passenger bus crashed into a roadside tree in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district on Thursday, police said.

The accident occurred shortly after noon near Semarmathani turn, when the bus, carrying more than 40 passengers, was travelling towards Kelhari village, Superintendent of Police Ratna Singh said.

According to the police, the bus appeared to have gone out of control before crashing into the tree. The initial assessment was based on the account of an injured passenger, the SP said.

Around 20 Injured, Driver Among Them

Ratna Singh said around 20 people, including the bus driver, sustained serious injuries in the accident. The injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Two of the injured were shifted to a hospital in Ambikapur, while the remaining injured were admitted to a hospital in Manendragarh, she said.

The accident involved a bus carrying more than 40 passengers, though the exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear.

Driver May Have Lost Control Of Bus

The preliminary account suggests that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off course and hit a roadside tree near Semarmathani turn.

Police have not provided further details about the cause of the accident. The initial explanation remains based on information shared by an injured passenger.
