New Delhi: In a significant crackdown on high-level corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested senior IPS officer Deepak Gehlawat in connection with an alleged ₹3-crore bribery case. The case is reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation into an illicit, fake medicines manufacturing racket.

According to CBI officials, Gehlawat was serving as the Regional Director of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) at the time the alleged offence took place. The agency has accused the senior officer of utilizing his official position and influence to unlawfully interfere with a CBI investigation in exchange for a substantial bribe. The agency further alleged that Gehlawat had assured a Puducherry-based businessman that he could guarantee a favourable outcome in the probe by influencing the specific officials handling the case.

The bribery network originally came to light during a CBI trap operation conducted in June, which led to the initial arrests of Delhi Police Crime Branch Inspector Pradeep Singh and an alleged middleman identified as Raj Kumar. Following those arrests, the federal agency registered a First Information Report (FIR) naming Inspector Pradeep Singh, Raj Kumar, and the Puducherry-based businessman, N. Raja. Following Gehlawat’s arrest, the CBI has intensified its investigation into the broader conspiracy to uncover the roles of any other individuals who may have been involved in the bribery network.
