Ranchi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a senior railway officer along with an alleged tout in connection with a bribery case in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district. The arrested official has been identified as Anmol Ukey, an Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers officer posted as the Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer with the South East Central Railway in Bhilai.
According to investigative authorities, the officer had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a contractor to clear outstanding bills, eventually settling on a sum of Rs 1 lakh. Acting on the complaint, federal investigators laid a trap and apprehended the officer alongside his associate while accepting an initial instalment of Rs 50,000 delivered through the middleman.
Subsequent search operations conducted across the residential and official premises of the accused in Raipur and Bhilai led to the seizure of approximately Rs 77 lakh in unaccounted cash alongside jewellery valued at roughly Rs 14 lakh. A designated court has remanded both individuals to four days of police custody as investigators continue to examine the financial records and scope of the transaction.
