New Delhi— The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), India’s highest decision-making body on national security matters, will convene on Wednesday to assess the situation following the deadly explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station that claimed 12 lives and injured more than 20 others.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the high-level meeting, which is expected to review the progress of the ongoing investigation and decide on subsequent security measures.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has been holding continuous discussions with top security agency chiefs since the blast, will present a detailed report before the CCS. The committee also includes Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Authorities are currently probing every aspect of the explosion before officially declaring its nature. No terror outfit has yet claimed responsibility, but officials are not ruling out any possibility.

If confirmed as a terror strike, the incident will be the first major test under India’s new war doctrine, which categorises any terrorist attack on national soil as an act of war.

The CCS review assumes added importance as the Delhi blast follows closely on the heels of the Pahalgam attack and the ongoing Operation Sindoor — a counterterror mission that Prime Minister Modi has described as “far from over.”
