Ferozepur – In a fresh blow to cross-border smuggling networks, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel seized pistols and heroin in two separate operations along the Ferozepur and Amritsar sectors.
The first incident occurred this afternoon following a tip-off from the BSF intelligence wing. Acting swiftly, BSF troops, in coordination with local police led by Inspector Gurwinder Kumar, SHO Sadar Ferozepur, and Assistant Commandant B.S. Negi of the 155 Battalion, recovered one large packet containing two pistols and three smaller packets of heroin weighing a total of 1.649 kilograms. The consignment, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape with a metal ring attached, was found near Bhakra village in Ferozepur.
Earlier, in a separate incident, BSF personnel recovered a packet of heroin weighing 609 grams from a farming field near Daoke village in Amritsar district. The packet was equipped with two illuminating sticks and an iron ring, a method often used by smugglers to aid cross-border deliveries.
According to officials, both recoveries highlight the persistent attempts by Pakistani smugglers to push drugs and weapons into Indian territory. However, the alertness and coordinated efforts of BSF and Punjab Police thwarted these smuggling bids.
A BSF spokesperson lauded the troops’ vigilance, calling the operations a testament to their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders. “Such seizures send a strong message that any attempt to smuggle arms or narcotics into India will be met with firm action,” the spokesperson said.
Authorities have intensified border surveillance and strengthened intelligence-sharing mechanisms to curb the increasing use of innovative smuggling techniques. The seizures are expected to significantly dent the operations of cross-border networks that fuel both drug addiction and armed criminal activities in the region.
