Madurai: Panic erupted at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday after authorities received a bomb threat, the latest in a series targeting India’s judiciary. Earlier this month, similar threats were reported at the Delhi and Bombay High Courts.
Security agencies acted swiftly, evacuating the entire court complex as a precaution. The CISF and the Bomb Disposal Squad conducted a thorough search, escorting judges, lawyers, staff, and visitors to safety. While the evacuation caused significant traffic congestion outside the premises, no suspicious objects were found.
The incident appears to follow a disturbing pattern, with bomb threats having targeted Delhi and Bombay High Courts earlier in the month. In all cases, threats were delivered via email, prompting suspensions of court proceedings and evacuations. Investigations later revealed that the Delhi High Court threat was false. Authorities are now probing whether a single individual or group is orchestrating these threats or if they are isolated acts of mischief. The repeated targeting of major high courts within a month has raised serious concerns for judicial security.
