New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s national office-bearers meeting passed a comprehensive resolution on Saturday strongly condemning the Congress Working Committee’s recent decision to restrict the singing of the National Song, Vande Mataram, to its first two stanzas at official party events. The ruling party affirmed that the full six-stanza composition embodies national consciousness and stated that singing the complete song aligns with its official status, which was reaffirmed through recent parliamentary legislation granting it parity with the National Anthem.
In a formal statement, BJP national president Nitin Nabin criticised the Congress decision of August 19, which reaffirmed a 1937 resolution limiting the song’s rendition. The BJP described Vande Mataram as an enduring symbol of the freedom struggle and national reverence, rejecting any compromise on its stature for political convenience or appeasement. The party highlighted that a working committee decision cannot override constitutional settlements or statutes passed by Parliament.
The resolution announced that the BJP will launch a nationwide campaign across the country to educate the public, particularly the younger generation, about the historical context, meaning, and significance of the complete song. Highlighting statements from Mahatma Gandhi on the song’s patriotic role during the anti-imperialist movement, the party stated that the heritage of Vande Mataram remains integral to national unity and India’s developmental vision.
