New Delhi: A man was injured after unidentified assailants opened fire at a car near the Kashmere Gate area of Delhi late Tuesday night, police said.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 10:10 pm when attackers fired multiple rounds at a vehicle carrying five occupants. Following the shooting, the assailants fled the scene.
The injured person was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police said his condition is stable.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said that upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot and found that four to five rounds had been fired at the vehicle. Authorities have launched an investigation and are examining all possible angles.
Police teams are analysing CCTV footage, recording statements of witnesses and collecting technical evidence to identify and apprehend the attackers at the earliest.
According to preliminary information, one of the occupants of the car, identified as advocate Deepak Khatri, has claimed to be part of the legal team of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The other four occupants escaped unharmed.
Officials said the motive behind the attack is not yet clear, but it may be linked to old rivalry or gang-related activity. A forensic team has inspected the spot, and empty cartridges have been recovered from the scene. The surrounding area has been cordoned off as the investigation continues.
