Patna: The National Democratic Alliance established a strong advantage on Friday as initial counting trends from the Bihar Assembly elections placed the coalition comfortably past the halfway mark. Early figures from the Election Commission indicate the NDA leading in 140 constituencies, giving it a decisive edge as the vote tally continues.
Within the alliance, the JD(U) is ahead in 62 seats, emerging as the single-largest contributor to the bloc’s numbers. The BJP follows closely with leads in 59 seats, while LJP(RV) is showing progress in 15 seats. Smaller ally HAMS is ahead in four constituencies.
On the opposition side, the Mahagathbandhan is trailing behind the ruling coalition. The RJD currently leads in 34 seats, the Congress in 10, and the CPI(ML)L in two. Together, the grouping accounts for 46 seats in the early count.
Meanwhile, independent candidates and smaller parties are ahead in six constituencies, making the contest competitive in several pockets across the state.
Counting is still underway across all districts, and officials caution that more definitive numbers will become clear as additional rounds are completed. The multi-coloured constituency map reflects a dynamic electoral landscape, with leads shifting in a handful of seats as EVM data continues to be updated.
With more than half the seats showing steady trends, political watchers say the NDA appears well-positioned to form the next government, though final results will determine whether the early momentum holds.
