New Delhi: Banking operations are expected to be affected on Monday, January 27, as officers and clerical staff across the banking sector have gone on a one-day strike to press for long-pending demands, primarily the introduction of a five-day work week.

The protest has been called by banking employees who argue that the existing work structure needs reform in line with other government and corporate institutions. According to Rajiv Sirhindi, an officer with the State Bank of India and a leader of the officers’ union, the demand for a five-day working system has been raised repeatedly over the years but has yet to be implemented.

As part of the agitation, bank employees are staging a sit-in demonstration in Patiala. The dharna is being held outside the State Bank of India’s head office located near Sheranwala Gate, drawing participation from officers and clerks alike.

Customers may face inconvenience due to limited services at bank branches, as routine transactions and customer assistance are likely to be disrupted for the day. Banking unions have indicated that such protests will continue if their demands are not addressed by the authorities.
