Assam— Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that state police have arrested five individuals in connection with the Delhi car blast case for allegedly spreading offensive and inflammatory content on social media.

Taking to X, Sarma identified the arrested individuals as Mattiur Rehman from Darrang, Hassan Ali Mondal from Goalpara, Abdul Latif from Chirang, Wajhul Kamal from Kamrup, and Nur Amin Ahmed from Bongaigaon. “The above-mentioned have been arrested in the Delhi blast case as key accused for spreading aggressive content online. Assam Police will continue to act swiftly and firmly against anyone misusing social media to spread hatred or glorify terror,” the Chief Minister posted.

Following the blast, security has been heightened at Guwahati Railway Station, where the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) are conducting strict checks on platforms and trains.

The explosion, which occurred on Monday near the Lal Quila Metro Station in New Delhi, involved a Hyundai i20 car and claimed at least eight lives. Investigators suspect that the car was being driven by Dr. Umar Un Nabi, whose remains are yet to be confirmed. Forensic experts have collected DNA samples from his mother in Pulwama and sent them to AIIMS for verification.

Delhi Police sources revealed that Umar was last seen driving the i20 on the Mumbai Expressway and the Kundli–Manesar–Palwal (KMP) Expressway before heading toward Delhi. Authorities are reviewing multiple CCTV footages to trace the car’s route and identify if any other vehicles were involved.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formed a dedicated team to probe the blast, which is suspected to have been carried out by a Jaish-e-Mohammad module. The Ministry of Home Affairs officially handed over the investigation to the NIA on Tuesday, citing a clear terror angle behind the attack.

The NIA’s special investigation team will function under senior officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police and above to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
