Amit Shah Targets Opposition Over Constitutional Amendment Bill, Reacts to Dhankhar’s Resignation

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in an exclusive interview with ANI, launched a sharp attack on the opposition over its criticism of the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, questioning its moral ground and political intent.

Taking a dig at the Congress and its allies, Shah alleged that certain parties are attempting to create a system where leaders can continue to govern even from behind bars. “Even today, their mindset is that if they ever go to jail, they should still be able to form the government. The jail will be turned into a CM or PM residence, and officials like the DGP, Chief Secretary, or Cabinet Secretary will be expected to take orders from prison,” he said.

Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Stand

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s move during the UPA era, Shah asked why the Congress leader had torn down an ordinance brought by then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to protect RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. “If Rahul Gandhi claimed morality at that time, does it not apply today? Or is it being ignored only because Congress has lost three consecutive elections?” he questioned.

Expressing confidence over the bill’s passage, Shah asserted that many within the Congress and the broader opposition bloc would eventually support the amendment on ethical grounds. “I am sure it will be passed. There will be several leaders who will uphold morality and stand on the right side,” he remarked.

On Public Connect vs. Event Management

Highlighting the importance of direct engagement with citizens, the Home Minister said there is a “big difference between managing programs and genuinely communicating with the public.”

Reaction to Jagdeep Dhankhar’s Resignation

On the sudden resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Shah clarified that it should not be politicized. “Dhankhar ji worked sincerely within constitutional limits during his tenure. He stepped down due to personal health concerns. There is no need to stretch this issue unnecessarily or look for hidden meanings,” he said.

The Home Minister’s remarks come amid heated debates in Parliament, with the ruling BJP pushing the constitutional amendment as a step towards strengthening governance, while the opposition continues to voice objections.
