Lucknow: In a coordinated show of organizational strength, all eight Bharatiya Janata Party candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections from Uttar Pradesh filed their nomination papers at the Vidhan Bhavan in Lucknow on Tuesday. The submission process took place on the final day for filing nominations in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who formally congratulated the nominees and extended his best wishes for the electoral contest.
The eight nominees submitting their papers include state cabinet minister Dharampal Singh, senior advocate Radhakant Ojha, regional leader Prakash Pal, former parliamentarian Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey, former Lok Sabha MP Priyanka Singh Rawat, party state general secretary Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, and Shruti Gangwar. The newly announced candidate list reflects a strategic focus on caste, gender, and regional representation ahead of broader political contests, replacing outgoing lawmakers with grassroots organizers and legal professionals.
The nomination event drew high-profile attendance across the ruling state government and party leadership. Among those present were Union Minister of State for Finance and state BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, alongside senior cabinet ministers including Suresh Khanna, Rakesh Sachan, Ashish Patel, and Sanjay Nishad. Polling for the ten Rajya Sabha seats in the state is scheduled for October 16.
