Aligarh— An assistant teacher at Shahpur Qutub Upper Primary School in Aligarh has been suspended after allegedly refusing to sing the National Anthem and Vande Mataram during the morning assembly. The incident created an uproar among staff and students, drawing swift action from education authorities.

According to reports, the teacher, identified as Samshul Hasan, not only declined to participate in the recitation but also objected to it. His actions were viewed as a display of indiscipline and disrespect toward national symbols.

Taking serious note of the incident, Basic Education Officer (BSA) Rakesh Kumar Singh ordered Hasan’s immediate suspension. Singh stated that the conduct of a government teacher should reflect respect for national values, and such behaviour violates the professional code of ethics.

“Acts like this undermine the spirit of unity and patriotism that schools are meant to nurture,” Singh said, confirming that a departmental inquiry has been initiated. The Block Education Officer has been assigned to carry out a detailed investigation, and further disciplinary measures will follow based on the report’s findings.

Meanwhile, the education department has issued an advisory urging all teachers in the district to actively participate in the singing of the National Anthem and Vande Mataram during school assemblies. Officials said these practices play a vital role in fostering respect, discipline, and national pride among students.

Local authorities have been informed of the development, and the issue has sparked discussions about maintaining decorum and patriotic values in educational institutions.
