Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Friday recounted a personal incident involving his 13-year-old daughter to highlight the rising threat of cybercrime against children. Speaking at the launch of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the State Police Headquarters in Mumbai, the actor shared how his daughter was approached by a stranger while playing an online video game.

Akshay explained that during the game, the unidentified player asked if she was male or female. When she responded that she was female, he sent an inappropriate request asking her to share nude photos. “It was my daughter. She immediately switched off the device and informed my wife. This is how cybercrime begins,” the actor said, stressing the need for strong awareness.

The ‘Welcome’ star appealed to the Maharashtra government to introduce a weekly “cyber period” in schools for students from classes 7 to 10, so that children can be educated about online risks. “This crime is becoming bigger than street crime. It is very important to stop this,” he said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, senior IPS officer Iqbal Singh Chahal, and actor Rani Mukerji were also present at the event.
