Airbnb Rolls Out New Social and Payment Features to Enhance Travel Experience Ahead of Holiday Season

New Delhi: Global travel platform Airbnb has unveiled a series of consumer-focused updates designed to make travel more social, flexible, and personalized, just in time for the upcoming holiday rush.

Among the major updates are new social features for Airbnb Experiences, improved search and discovery options, and a “Reserve Now, Pay Later” payment facility, which aims to make travel more convenient and accessible.

According to the company, these new features were inspired by user feedback and aim to help travellers connect more meaningfully. “In a recent survey, more than nine in ten Indian respondents said they would like to know more about other guests before booking an experience. Now, before you book, we’ll show you who’s already going — along with where they’re from,” Airbnb said in a statement.

Through a new “Who’s Going” feature, travellers can see other guests joining the same experience, message them directly within the app, and use a Connections section to reconnect with people from past trips. Airbnb emphasized that users will retain full control over privacy and visibility settings.

The platform has also upgraded its search tools, introducing flexible carousels that display nearby or similar listings beyond a user’s initial search filters, helping travellers explore hidden gems. Enhanced maps now allow filtering based on proximity to landmarks, restaurants, and attractions, with satellite and transit views expected later this year.

A major highlight of the update is Airbnb’s “Reserve Now, Pay Later” option, which lets users book eligible stays with zero upfront payment. The feature is currently available in the U.S. and will gradually expand worldwide through 2026, though currencies such as INR, BRL, and TRY are not yet supported.

On the customer service front, Airbnb is expanding its AI-powered support system, enabling smarter, multilingual assistance in English, Spanish, and French across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

For hosts, Airbnb introduced a Dynamic Cancellation Policy, allowing them to apply different cancellation terms for specific dates such as holidays or off-peak seasons. Hosts can now also access price tips up to a year in advance, with year-over-year earnings trends set to launch next year to help monitor seasonal performance.

With global travel demand soaring — especially for winter holidays — Airbnb’s latest updates reaffirm its commitment to enhancing connection, flexibility, and ease of use for travellers and hosts alike.
